We’re happy to announce that AlmaLinux is now available on all cloud compute plans! AlmaLinux is an open-source RHEL fork developed by the same team that brings us CloudLinux and is meant to be the community driven replacement to CentOS.

Not too long ago RedHat announced CentOS Stream, a new development approach which effectively removes CentOS as an available free OS as we’ve come to know it over the past decade+. With CentOS no longer an option as the default RHEL fork OS choice for common deployments it introduced an immediate market gap which needed filling. Enter AlmaLinux, the CloudLinux backed product aiming to not only fill that gap left by CentOS but improve on it and provide a free, trusted, and easy to use OS that’s driven by community development.

For those who are not familiar with CloudLinux they develop the OS we use here at Hawk Host for our shared, reseller, and semi-dedicated plans. Their OS is also available for our customers on cloud computes. In addition to their OS we also utilize their Imunify360 and kernelcare software in our environments, all with the goal of creating the highest performing and most secure shared hosting environment we can provide.

CloudLinux is leveraging their technical expertise from developing CloudLinux and applying it to their newest backed project AlmaLinux. In addition to providing technical and development resources they have also committed $1,000,000 (yes, that’s one million dollars!) per year in sponsorship funds for the project.

Clients will now see AlmaLinux as an option on our order form for new computes, and you can also choose to rebuild your existing compute if you’d like to give the new OS a try. You can learn more about AlmaLinux from their FAQ or join some discussions on their many community sites. If you do try it out and have feedback please let us know, we’d love to hear back from you!
